Hong Kong Updates Range of Technical Criteria for Radio Access Network Equipment

The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) of Hong Kong updated Type Acceptance Criteria for the following types of radio access network equipment:

  • 5G new radio (NR) base station (BS) equipment operating on frequency bands below 6 GHz band of BS type 1-C and BS type 1-H1
  • 5G new radio user equipment operating below the 6GHz Band
  • 5G new radio user equipment for interworking operation with other radios
  • 5G NR, E-UTRA, UTRA AND GSM/EDGE multi-standard radios (MSR) base station equipment operating below 6GHz
  • Hybrid active antenna system (AAS) base station equipment supporting single RAT UTRA, single RATE-UTRA, and multi-standard radio (UTRA, E-UTRA, 5G NR) and operating on frequency bands below 6 GHz

Technical requirements for the above-mentioned equipment are based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specifications as below:

  • 5G New Radio (NR) base station (BS) equipment should follow the relevant clauses of:

    - 3GPP TS 38.141-1  “3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group RAN; NR; Base Station (BS) Conformance Testing, Part 1: Conducted Conformance Testing”
    - 3GPP TS 38.141-2 “3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group RAN; NR; Base Station (BS) Conformance Testing, Part 2: Radiated Conformance Testing”
  • 5G New Radio User Equipment should follow the relevant clauses of:

    - 3GPP TS 38.521-1 “Third Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; NR; User Equipment (UE) conformance specification; Radio transmission and reception; Part 1: Range 1 Standalone”
  • 5G New Radio User Equipment for Interworking Operation with other radios should follow the relevant clauses of:

    - 3GPP TS 38.521-3 “Third Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; NR; User Equipment (UE) conformance specification; Radio transmission and reception; Part 3: Range 1 and Range 2 Interworking operation with other radios”
  • 5G NR, E-UTRA, UTRA AND GSM/EDGE multi-standard radios (MSR) Base Station Equipment  should follow the relevant clauses of:

    - 3GPP TS 37.104 “3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; NR, E-UTRA, UTRA and GSM/EDGE; MultiStandard Radio (MSR) Base Station (BS) radio transmission and reception”
  • AAS base station equipment  should follow the relevant clauses of:

    - 3GPP TS 37.145-1 “3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; Active Antenna System (AAS) Base Station (BS) conformance testing; Part 1: Conducted conformance testing”
    - 3GPP TS 37.145-2 “3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; Active Antenna System (AAS) Base Station (BS) conformance testing; Part 2: Radiated conformance testing”

Please, note that the type acceptance criteria are the official documents that contain the evaluated parameters for different types of equipment and can be used for better understanding the relevant requirements by the interested parties.
