The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy of the UK (BEIS) updated the Guidance on Placing manufactured goods on the market of Great Britain.
As we remember, the UK has left the EU and starting from January 1, 2021 acts upon the national legislation including the newly appeared the UK Conformity Assessed marking (the UKCA) that should replace CE mark at the national level. The UKCA marking became effective from January 1, 2021 as well. However, the UK government gave a grace period for businesses to prepare for the new requirements. This period ends on January 1, 2023. Up to this date, CE marked specific products which meet EU requirements that correspond to UK national requirements can continue to be placed on the GB market until January 1, 2023.
The BEIS supplemented the Guidance to direct the manufacturers’ attention to the use of the UKCA marking. It notifies that the UKCA marking can be already implemented. Though it is possible to use the CE mark until January 1, 2023, the BEIS prompts market players not to wait till the last moment but start using the UKCA marking as soon as possible.
