The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has notified interested parties of new technical specifications for digital audio broadcasting receivers. The document TCRA/TS017, “Minimum Technical Specifications for Digital Audio Broadcasting Receivers,” was published in mid-July 2024. It specifies the minimum technical requirements and characteristics for devices that can receive digital audio broadcasting (DAB+) signals. The document applies to radio receivers and all other products with built-in radio receivers.

According to the specification, Digital Audio Broadcasting Receivers must be capable of receiving terrestrially transmitted DAB+ sound broadcasting services and must meet the following requirements:

  • General requirements
  • RF requirements
  • DAB+ channel decoding requirements
  • Audio decoding requirements
  • Functionality and user interface
  • Announcement signaling and switching, service labels
  • User information and accessories
  • Safety
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

Conformance with the minimum requirements of the specification ensures the quality of products imported into the United Republic of Tanzania.

Please note, the specification contains only minimum requirements. Manufacturers or importers may include additional characteristics or increased performance compared to the minimum requirements specified during the testing and conformity assessment procedure.
