Saudi Arabia Prepares New Standard on Electrical and Electronics Engineering

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) issued Technical specifications for the radio, digital and analog broadcasting receiver for AM/FM/T- DAB+ in 2019.

This document is intended for the use by all producers, manufacturers, importers, and retailers who want to sell radio receivers and all other products which have built-in radio receivers in Saudi Arabia. It specifies the requirements for automotive radio receivers as well as for other types of radio receivers.

The standard is applicable to devices that can receive terrestrially transmitted AM, FM, and T-DAB+ radio services and does not concern receivers intended to receive digital services via alternative delivery platforms (e.g. internet)

Primarily, the SASO was planning to implement this specification in the beginning of 2020, however, the implantation date was postponed. For now, it is planned that this document will come into force from January 1, 2021.

The draft of the specification is available here.
