International Telecommunication Union Updates Radio Regulations

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) issued the 2020 ITU Radio Regulations on September 15, 2020.

The ITU Radio Regulations present an internationally recognized set of rules that regulate radiocommunication services and radio frequency use. It supplements the Constitution and Convention of the International Telecommunication Union.

The 2020 ITU Radio Regulations integrate final acts that were adopted at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) in Egypt.

This document allows determining the frequencies required for emergency cases and safety purposes. It also helps to prevent and resolve cases that can lead to harmful interference between the radio services of different administrations. Moreover, the Regulations serve as an instrument for the effective operation of all radiocommunication services and can be used as a control mechanism for new radiocommunication technologies.

The 2020 ITU Radio Regulations become effective from January 1, 2021. The document is available in six official languages and can be found here.
