Indonesia Permits 5G Technologies

The Directorate General of Post and Information Technology Devices Resources (SDPPI) issued a regulation on technical standards of telecommunication tools and/or devices based on International Mobile Telecommunications-2020 (IMT-2020). According to this regulation, every telecommunication equipment and/or devices based on International Mobile Telecommunications - 2020 (IMT-2020) that are made, assembled, marketed, and used on the territory of the Republic of Indonesia must meet technical standards. The IMT-2020 specifications known as 5G have been developed by 3GPP and consist of long-term evolution (LTE) and new radio (NR) releases.

The Regulation applies to base stations and subscriber stations and contains two annexes that describe requirements and standards to the above-mentioned equipment respectively.

Apart from complying with the technical standards, the subscriber stations must have a unique IMEI number.

Please, note that 5G NR base stations and subscriber stations can operate only in the following bands:


The evaluation of the equipment is carried out through the certification procedure in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.
