India Updates Quality Order with Regard to Plugs and Sockets

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued an Order on June 7, 2021. This Order is called “The Plugs and Socket-Outlets and Alternating Current Direct Connected Static Prepayment Meters for Active Energy (Quality Control) Order, 2021”. It replaces the Order on the Plugs and Socket-Outlets dated by 2019.

The Order becomes effective from June 1, 2022. The following products are under the scope of the Quality Order, 2021:

  • plugs and socket-outlets
  • alternating current direct connected static prepayment meters for active energy

Thus, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will start to carry out conformity assessment procedures for the above-mentioned categories of products from June 2022

Once plugs and socket-outlets proved the compliance of IS 1293 requirements, BIS grants certificate authorizing to cover the approved product with the Standard Mark. For the alternating current direct connected static prepayment meters for active energy, the Standard Mark can be affixed when the product meets the requirements of IS 15884 standard.
