Georgia Issues New Regulations for Household Ventilation Unit

The Government of Georgia has approved the technical regulation "Rules for Energy Labeling of Household Ventilation Units". The technical regulation sets out requirements for labeling and accompanying information for household ventilation units.

The technical regulation does not apply to:

a) single-acting ventilation units (with an air pumping or supply function) with a power consumption of less than 30W

b) ventilation units intended for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere

c) ventilation units intended for emergency use for a short period of time

d) ventilation units operating under the following conditions:

  • the temperature of the moving air exceeds 100°C
  • the temperature of the working environment of the driving motor located outside the air flow exceeds 65°C
  • the temperature of the moving air or the temperature of the working environment of the motor, in the absence of air flow, is less than -40°C
  • the supply voltage exceeds 1000V AC or 1500V DC
  • in a toxic, highly aggressive, or fire hazardous environment

e) ventilation units containing a heat exchanger and a heat pump for heat recovery or, together with a heat recovery system, additionally providing the ability to transfer or remove heat, with the exception of heat transfer for protection against freezing or defrosting

f) hoods

Each household ventilation unit supplied to the market must have an energy label on the external front or top part of the product in such a way that it is clearly visible.

In case of distance selling, the supplier must provide the domestic ventilation unit with the following information in Georgian:

a) energy intensity class
b) specific energy consumption, in kWh/(m2 per year) for each climatic zone
c) maximum flow rate, m3/h
d) sound power level, in dB

For online sales, the electronic label provided by the supplier must be placed on the display screen next to the price of the product. The label size must be clear and intelligible. The label can be displayed on the built-in screen. In this case it should appear upon the first mouse click, mouse movement or image zooming on a touch screen.

The label for a one-way ventilation installation

The label must contain the following information:

I – Supplier's trademark name

II – Model identifier assigned by the supplier

III – Energy efficiency class for an“average” climate

IV – Sound power level, in dB

V – Maximum flow rate in m3/h, accompanied by a single arrow indicating a one-way ventilation unit

The label for a unit with two-way ventilation

The label must contain the following information:

I – Supplier's trademark name

II – Model identifier assigned by the supplier

III – Energy efficiency class for an“average” climate

IV – Sound power level, in dB

V – Maximum flow rate in m3/h, accompanied by a two arrows in opposite directions, indicating a two-way ventilation unit

Labels must be at least 75mm wide and at least 150mm high. If the label is printed in a larger format, its content must remain proportional to the characteristics specified above.

The supplier is obliged to provide each domestic ventilation unit with:

  • a printed energy label
  • an information table about the product in Georgian
  • technical documentation
  • an indication of the energy efficiency class
  • an advertising brochure with technical characteristics

To present this information, specific energy consumption classes are determined according to the table below:

Specific energy consumption, annual electricity consumption, annual heat savings, maximum consumption, and sound power level are determined in accordance with the technical control and calculation methods provided in the technical regulation itself.

The technical regulation comes into force on December 31, 2025.
