Energy Efficiency Requirements to Refrigerating Appliances in the EAEU

Although the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) postponed the implementation date of the TR EAEU 048/2019 “On energy efficiency requirements for energy-using appliances", the list of energy consumption products and their requirements mainly remained unchanged.

Please, see the key energy efficiency requirements for refrigerating appliances that should be met when the TR EAEU 048/2019 comes into effect.

The Regulation applies to domestic refrigeration appliances (refrigerators, freezers and their combinations) put into circulation in the EAEU, which can be used for commercial purposes and are powered by an alternating mains with a rated voltage of up to 250 V with a useful volume of chilled/frozen food or other products not exceeding 1500l.

Refrigeration appliances are tested to determine Energy Efficiency Index (EEI). Thus, refrigeration appliances (except wine cabinets and refrigeration appliances with a useful volume of less than 10 l) must have an EEI value of less than:

  • 42 - for compression-type refrigeration appliances
  • 110 - for absorption-type refrigeration appliances

Refrigerators with quick freeze function, once activated by the user in accordance with the operating documents, must automatically return to the previous normal storage temperature conditions not later than 72 hours.

This requirement does not apply to refrigerator-freezers with one thermostat and one compressor, which are equipped with an electromechanical control system. But such freezers must have the "winter mode" function that automatically sets the correct storage temperature for frozen food according to the ambient temperature.

Refrigerating appliances with a useful volume of less than 10 liters must automatically switch to the operating mode with a power consumption of 0.00 W no later than after 1 hour of operation in an empty state.

The energy efficiency of refrigeration appliances depends on the energy efficiency index and can be one of the following 7 classes (in descending order):

Please, note that refrigeration appliances must have an energy label and technical sheet.

In energy label should be indicated the following information:

  1. name or trademark (if any) of the manufacturer
  2. model designation
  3. energy efficiency class
  4. annual energy consumption (kWh/year)
  5. useful total volume of the section for chilled food products with a temperature above -6 °C
  6. useful total volume of the storage section frozen food products with a temperature not exceeding -6 ° C
  7. corrected sound power level.

Technical sheet should contain the following:

  1. name or trademark (if any) of the manufacturer
  2. model designation
  3. category of the model
  4. energy efficiency class
  5. annual energy consumption
  6. the useful volume of each section and the number of "stars" in the marking (if any)
  7. design temperature of “other sections”
  8. the note “without frost formation” for the relevant sections
  9. the nominal temperature rise time of food products in the freezer section (in hours)
  10. freezing capacity (in kg per day)
  11. climate class
  12. corrected sound power level
  13. corresponding record for a built-in refrigeration appliance

It is possible to indicate information about several refrigeration appliances from the same manufacturer  in one technical sheet.
