Egypt Updates Type Approval Procedures and the List of Accredited Labs

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt recently updated its type approval procedures as well as the list of accredited labs.

We would like to notice that in Egypt there are two schemes of approval for communication equipment:

  • Light type approval scheme
  • Tight type approval scheme

The light type approval scheme applies when the manufacturer has accredited lab under ISO 17025 with regards to EMC and safety requirements area or when manufacturer’s factories are not located in China or India and manufacturer has QMS accredited under ISO 9001. Otherwise, tight type approval scheme is used.

However, if the accredited lab is located in China or India, it should in the list of NTRA accredited test labs. The list can be found in the table III or IV via the link.

According to the light type approval scheme, you do not need to provide test sample to get the certificate. You only need relevant test reports against:

  • RF requirements
  • EMC requirements
  • Safety requirements
  • SAR requirements

It is important to remember that test reports should consider technical requirements of European, International or American standards.

Moreover, the device and its packaging should contain the label under either CE or FCC labeling requirements along with the information on importer.

Please, keep in mind that the NTRA has the right to take any sample from shipment for the inspection before initiating the clearance permit.

If you should follow the tight type approval procedure, first of all you will need to apply for Verification of Compliance at one of the NTRA accredited test labs. The list contains Group A and Group B labs. You should pay attention to this fact as only labs from Group A have the right to request product samples for inspection for VoC issuance. If you get a test report from the Group B lab, you need to get an approval from the Group A lab as well.

Then, you should submit technical dossier for the evaluation to the NTRA. Once it is approved, the applicant can start the first shipment.

The Type approval procedure is considered to be completed once the local inspection is passed after the first shipment.
