China Implements a New Standard for Textile Production Coding Based on Consumer Experience

The Standardization Administration of China issued a new national standard on textile production coding as GB/T 40270-2021 ‘Textiles. General technical requirements based on consumer experience.

The standard applies to end-use textile products and contains an assessment index system based on the subjective perceptions of the consumers. Among assessment indexes, it is possible to mark the following:

  • General safety
  • Quality requirements
  • Visual perception
  • Tactile perception
  • Olfactory perception

Thus, textile units should meet the requirements of related product standards as well as the outer indicators. It means that garment should be tested against:

  • fiber shedding
  • resistance to pile loop extraction
  • rupture pocket seams
  • bursting strength of hosiery toe
  • colorfastness to washing
  • shedding of glitter and appearance after laundering or dry-cleaning

With respect to tactile and olfactory perceptions, they propose to check whether it calls for prickly sensation, what are tactile senses when touching zipper and fasteners, slip resistance for hosiery and pungent odor absence.

The standard is going to become effective from December 1, 2021.
