China Announces Implementation of New EMC Standard

China released the National Standard GB/T 9254.1-2021 “Information technology equipment, multimedia equipment and receivers - Electromagnetic compatibility - Part 1: Emission requirements” that should replace two standards:

  • GB/T 9254-2008 “Information technology equipment - Radio disturbance characteristics - Limits and methods of measurement”
  • GB/T 13837-2012 “Sound and television broadcast receivers and associated equipment - Radio disturbance characteristics - Limits and methods of measurement”

The new standard adopts provisions of the international standard CISPR 32:2015 “Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment - Emission requirements”. The national chinese standard applies to ITE equipment under the CCC catalog of 08/09/16. It will come into force on July 1st, 2022. However, there is a 2-years transition period. Thus, the application of the standard becomes mandatory from July 1st, 2024.

Nevertheless, it is said that an applicant can submit an application for CCC certification against the new standard after July 1st, 2022.

Please, note that if the original CCC certificate is granted under the old version of the standard, the manufacturer should provide updated test report and certificate against the new version within the next annual factory audit. Otherwise, the auditor will expose a nonconformance and give 3 months to update the documentation against the GB/T 9254.1-2021 requirements.
