"Chestny znak" Marking Becomes Mandatory in Russia

GMA Consult Group has earlier informed about the new “Chestny znak” (Fair label) system launching in Russia.

We would like to revise some aspects regarding the “Chestny znak”:

  • It is a unified national track & trace system in Russia that is coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation
  • It has been worked out to guarantee the quality of goods being purchased by customers.

This system has already become effective for fur products and footwear.

The Rules on footwear marking became mandatory from July 1, 2020.

It means that production and import of footwear without appropriate marking are forbidden for circulation in Russia from July 1, 2020.

However, the registration of the leftover stock produced or acquired before July 1, 2020 was possible up to August 1, 2020. Please note that it is necessary to mark and commercialize such goods by September 1, 2020.

Thus, any consumer can download a special program that recognizes Data Matrix Code, so-called Chestny ZNAK app. It helps to check the authenticity of goods and learn all information on this product including information on the manufacturer, contents, and validity period. If it is stated that the product is a counterfeit one, a consumer is able to flag any violations in this app.

Please, be aware that the sale of the goods without the identification marking as well as storage, transportation or acquisition of such goods for further sale are subject to administrative fines.

The information has been prepared by the GMA Consult Group team.
