The Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) revised and issued the Radio Standards Specification RSS-310 (issue 5) “on licence-exempt radio apparatus: category II equipment”. This standard applies to licence-exempt radio apparatus that are used for communication in different frequency bands.
In this version, requirements for devices operating in 24-24.25 GHz bands are excluded. Now such devices are subject to RSS-210 “Licence-exempt radio apparatus: category I equipment”. In the previous version, there were exemptions from requirements for infrared wireless devices that were excluded from the current one as well.
You should consider that RSS-310, issue 5 should be used together with RSS-Gen “General Requirements for Compliance of Radio Apparatus”. Thus, the RSS-Gen contains information that should be indicated in user manuals of the equipment subject to RSS-310, issue 5.
This version of the standard does not contain provision for electronic labelling of equipment and requirements for Category II receivers. This information you can find in the RSS-Gen.
Basically, in the RSS-310, issue 5 requirements for alternating current (AC) wire carrier current devices as well as general info were revised.
Please note that during the transition period of 6 months it is possible to use both RSS-310, issue 5 or RSS-310, issue 4 for the compliance procedure. However, once this period ends, the equipment manufactured or imported to Canada for sale must comply with RSS-310, issue 5 requirements only.
