Brazil Updates Requirements to Toys

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) issued amendments to the Ordinance Inmetro nº 563, of December 29, 2016, which approves the Technical Regulation and Conformity Assessment Requirements for Toys. The new amendments are implemented through the INMETRO Ordinance No. 217 of June 18, 2020. They affect to the following articles:

Thus, for the national manufacturers and importers these amendments become effective starting from January 1, 2022. For foreign manufacturers and importers this Ordinance becomes mandatory from January 1, 2023.

However, companies that are engaged in the distribution and trading activities must put toys on the national market of Brazil in accordance with the new rules starting from July 1, 2025.

Please note, service intervals should be carried out every 12 months from the date of certificate issuance. The validity period of the certificate of conformity can be extended up to 5 years.
