Andean Adopts Unified Labeling Requirements for Softlines

The Andean Community is an international organization that includes several organs and institutions and consists of:

  • 4 Member Countries: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru
  • 5 Associated Countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay
  • 1 Observer country: Spain

The community is aimed at improving the quality of the products on the inner market and in trade with third countries to protect the health, safety of human beings, and the environment as well as consumer rights.

Recently, the Andean adopted unified labelling requirements for softlines and leather products. These requirements will allow domestic manufacturers to export their product across the world more easier as they help to comply with a multitude of often dissimilar labelling regulations.

Two Resolutions were published by the Andean for softlines and leather products that contain labeling requirements:

Resolution No. 2107 — Andean Technical Regulations for the Labelling of Footwear, Leather Goods, Travel Items and the Like. This Technical Resolutions establishes the minimum information labeling requirements for footwear, leather goods, travel items, and the like, which are manufactured or imported and marketed within the Andean. The Resolution 2107 was published by the Adean on November 14, 2019 and will become effective from November 14, 2020

Resolution No. 2109 — Andean Technical Regulations for the Labelling of Apparel.

This Andean Technical Resolutions establishes the minimum information labeling requirements for manufactured or imported clothing that is marketed within the Andean subregion. The Resolution 2109 was published by the Adean on 14 November, 2019 will become effective from 14 May 2021.

The main requirements with regard to these Resolutions you can find in the table below:
