Saudi Arabia Introduces New Standard for Air Conditioners

SASO has recently introduced new requirements and enforcement timelines for a new version of the standard for air conditioners SASO 2663:2021 “Air conditioners minimum energy performance, labelling and testing requirements for low-capacity window and single-split types”. The document will completely replace SASO 2663:2018 standard.

The new energy label for air conditioners additionally will contain information on:

  • Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) classification
  • Rated SEER value (Btu/W.h)

The draft of the label will be as follows:

SASO will start receiving new applications for SEER from November 1, 2021. However, there is a transition period for manufacturers up to April 1, 2022. Thus, starting from April 2022, all EER certificates will be terminated, and new labels shall be affixed to products in local production lines and shipments through Saudi Customs.

Please note that if you already have an EER certificate, to keep the registration valid you need to provide an updated application with the new standard and issue a SEER label. If you want to change the set of default values you will need to provide specific test reports as well.

It is planned to mark all air conditioners marketed in KSA with a new label starting from July 1, 2022.
