Vietnam Publishes the List of Equipment Subject to Mandatory Energy Labeling

Vietnam published the Decision No. 04/2017/QD-TTg on the list of equipment and appliances applicable to the mandatory energy labeling and minimum energy efficiency standards as well as the roadmap to its implementation. Actually, this Decision entered into force in 2017 but was voluntary for some categories of product up to December 31, 2019. Starting from January 1, 2020, the list of equipment and appliances that require mandatory energy labeling is expanded.

Thus, from January 1, 2020 the following categories of product must have energy labels and meet the minimum energy efficiency standards requirements:

  • LED light bulbs, electric kettles
  • laptop computers
  • motorcycles and mopeds

Now in Vietnam, the energy labeling is mandatory for:

1. Regulated household appliances namely: straight fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent bulbs, magnetic and electronic ballasts for fluorescent lights, air conditioners, refrigerators, household washing machines, electric cookers, electric fans, video cameras, LED light bulbs, electric kettles with a water reservoir

2. Regulated office and commercial equipment and appliances namely: photocopiers, computer monitors, printers, commercial freezers, laptop computers.

3. Regulated industrial equipment and appliances namely: distribution transformers, electric engines.

4. Regulated means of transport namely: automobiles for the transport of up to 9 persons, motorcycles, mopeds.

Please, note that energy labels for the non-mentioned equipment and appliances are not mandatory but recommended.

However, the manufacturer cannot put the label without applying for registration of energy labeling.

So the applicant must apply for registration of energy labeling to the Ministry and  provide the following documents:

  • declaration of energy labeling
  • test results provided by a testing laboratory for the product model
  • energy label model

Please make sure that your energy label contains the following information:

a) Abbreviated or full name of the manufacturer/importer

b) Code of equipment

c) Information on energy consumption rate

d) Applicable standards or regulations

If you have all the required documents and your product meets the relevant standards requirements, you will get the permission to affix the energy label to your product.
