The Telecommunications and Regulatory Authority of United Arab Emirates (TRA) issued version 4.0 of Regulations for Ultra-Wide Band and Short-Range Devices. The Regulations were published on December 21, 2020.

The documents contain regulatory rules and technical conditions for the authorization and use of Ultra-Wide Band and Short-Range Devices.

The technical conditions of SRDs depend on the usage conditions and are divided to the following classes:

  • Inductive applications
  • Non-specific short range devices
  • Model control
  • Tracking, tracing and data acquisition
  • Radio Frequency Identification
  • Active Medical Implants
  • Aids for the hearing impaired
  • Radiodetermination applications
  • Level Probing Radar / Tank Level Probing Radar
  • Wireless Access Systems
  • ITS, TTT and Railway applications and equipment
  • Other SRD uses

When importing the SRDs to the UAE, pay your attention to:

  • frequency ranges
  • transmit power / Magnetic field
  • duty cycle
  • channel spacing

They should be in compliance with these Regulations.

The technical conditions of UWBs divided to:

  • Generic UWB devices
  • UWB devices for location tracking
  • UWB devices for Building Material Analysis
  • UWB devices for Ground Penetration Radars (GPR) / Wall Penetration Radars (WPR) imaging systems
  • UWB Devices in Motor and Railway Vehicles
  • Trigger-before-transmit mitigation technique for vehicular access systems

For the UWB devices, the major technical conditions are based on:

  • Frequency bands
  • Maximum mean e.i.r.p. density
  • Maximum peak e.i.r.p density
  • The values of measure peak power density

If the wireless networks exceeds the technical conditions indicated in these Regulations, the application can be submitted as part of other related UAE Spectrum.
