The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) of the UAE has recently informed that the 2G (GSM) network is going to be closed. Currently, the TDRA is preparing for switching to the new generation of telecom technologies using. Thus, service providers are planning to stop using the 2G network at the end of 2022. Hence, devices supporting 2G only won’t be sold in the UAE market from June 2022.
TDRA and the UAE service providers work together on opening more capable mobile networks that provide access to the most advanced telecom services and state-of-the-art telecom technologies.
TDRA explains that such actions stem from the rapid growth of new technologies and IoT as well as smart cities that require advanced networks that provide fast and good communication between the tons of devices. TDRA notices that the ICT sector is developing fast as well as telecom technologies. As the UAE wants to keep playing the first part, it is necessary to stay at the cutting edge of these changes and make accurate and timely decisions.
