UAE Sets National Requirements for Electrical Vehicles

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT) developed the National Standards Technical Requirements for Electric Vehicles (UAE.S 2698: 2023). The standard will be applicable to all electric vehicles with a speed of more than 25 km/h. The standard specifies requirements to electric vehicles that can help to reduce deaths and injuries during a car crash, electric shock caused by electrolyte spillage from propulsion batteries, intrusion of propulsion battery system components into the occupant compartment and electric shock.

Please, note that all cars should be equipped with the electrical car performance label where declared performance values are indicated. The standard specifies electric energy consumption that should not exceed 300 Wh/km and total maximum distance that the vehicle should travel 200 km.

In the standard, manufacturers will also find requirements to marking labels and accompanying documentation.

The standard has been prepared in conjunction with both GSO technical regulations and international standards for electrical motor vehicles. It becomes mandatory after approval as a UAE Technical Regulation by UAE Cabinet Resolution.
