Thailand Issues Portable Power Bank Safety Requirements

The Thai Ministry of Industry recently issued the regulation on the mandatory conformity compliance procedure for the portable power banks with regard to safety requirements.

Thus, to put power banks on the Thai market, it will be necessary to prove their compliance to the national safety standard TIS 2879-2560 “Portable Power Bank – Safety Requirements”. The standard itself was released in January 2019 and was advisory.

This regulation binds manufacturers of portable power banks to ensure compliance of their products with national safety standard TIS 2879-2560. It means that this type of product after its compliance to the TIS 2879-2560 must be covered with the mandatory certification mark.

The Ministry decided to introduce such measures to control the safety and quality of this type of product and to prevent further incidents connected with the use of unsafe portable power supplies.

Please note that the regulation comes into force in 150 days after its official publication. It means that the provisions of this Regulation become effective after November 16, 2020.
