Saudi Arabia Launches Emerging Technology Regulatory Sandbox

The Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has recently notified about the start of a new service called “the Emerging Technologies Regulatory Sandbox”. This service is aimed at introducing Emerging Technologies products as well as providing improved technologies on the KSA market and attract specialists, start-ups, and business to engage in these activities. Thus, the CITC wants to provide new opportunities for companies, maintain effective consumer protection, and improve the national economy via Sandbox.

This platform allows consolidating different regulatory agencies and provide a supportive regulatory environment. The CITC developed emerging technology regulatory sandbox application guidance for better understanding of the platform. The guide explains objectives and benefits of using the Sandbox as well as instruct how to submit an application and describe the actual lifecycle.

The CITC clarifies that the first applications can be submitted from May 10, 2022 to July 7, 2022 via platform on the CITC website. The procedure is going to take place over 9 months. Following that, admissions will occur on a rolling basis.

The Emerging Technology Regulatory Sandbox Application Guidelines you can find here.
