Peru Opens New Bands for Unlicensed Use

On May 26, 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru (MTC) issued the Resolution 488-2021-MTC/01. According to this document, the 470-698 MHz frequency band for wireless telecommunication services became available for the unlicensed use. However, the technical characteristics must be the same as for TV White Spaces technologies operating on the 470 MHz to 698 MHz bands that were approved earlier.

Apart from that, the MTC has modified its National Frequency Attribution Plan enabling unlicensed access to the 6 GHz band, where 1200MHz of spectrum in the 5925MHz-7125MHz (6GHz) band was identified for unlicensed Wi-Fi 6E access.

Currently, the technical parameters for the unlicensed use of the 6 GHz band are under consideration. Nevertheless, the unlicensed access to the whole 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi will take Peru to a higher level where ultra-fast Wi-Fi brings new applications and new industries to the market.
