Pakistan Issues Measures to Protect Authorized Voice Communication

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued IP Whitelisting Regulations. This document is another step to stop grey telephony. The Regulations apply to all licensees and their subscribers with regards to data registration for the IP addresses to have the opportunity to use VOIP. IP Whitelisting Regulations specify  procedures that should be implemented by licensees to have IP address included to the white list.

Please, note that only licensees and organizations authorized by the PTA (in some cases, by the Federal Government) may apply to the PTA for inclusion of any IP address in the white list.

The PTA reminds the licensees that they should use only IP addresses from the white list. Otherwise, commercial voice services will be interrupted and the PTA may also initiate additional legal penalty actions against the offenders.

The PTA excludes IP address from the list when:

  • any misconduct is found
  • any change related to the assignment of the whitelisted IP occur
  • IP operator is delisted
  • PSEB call center certificate is expired

Moreover, a regulatory authority can check the compliance of the licencesses to the regulations any time through its authorized representatives. You should always keep all the relevant documents up-to-date and be sure that your premises are ready for physical inspection of the authority.
