The Federal Telecommunications Institute of Mexico (IFT) established technical standard IFT-012-2019 on “Technical specifications for compliance with the maximum levels of non-ionizing radioelectric emissions of telecommunications products, equipment, devices and appliances that may be connected to a telecommunications network and/or use the radio spectrum. Specific absorption rate (SAR)”.
The standard was published in the Official Mexican Gazette (DOF) on February 26, 2020 and would come into force in 365 days after its publication. However, given that the World Trade Organization was notified on the standard only on February 1, 2021, establishment of the document is postponed. Thus, they gave 60 days for comments within the TBT Agreement that supports businesses in EU Member States access markets in countries outside the EU.
The IFT-012-2019 have been worked out to state the safety requirements of the equipment for the person. It helps to ensure that the product operating in the frequency range of 300 MHz to 6 GHz and used at a distance less or equal to 200 mm from the human body, comply with the basic exposure limits of non-ionizing radio emissions.
