Malaysia Announces New Guidelines for Importing Electrical Goods

For businesses and manufacturers considering entering the Malaysian market, there's important news to note. Malaysia's SIRIM QAS Consignment Laboratory has recently introduced significant updates to the electrical goods import procedures.

Key Updates:

  1. Physical Inspection: Starting from August 1st, 2023, all goods intended for supply in Malaysia will undergo a physical inspection.
  2. Nonconformance: If any electrical products do not meet the required standards during testing, inspection, or document verification, the SIRIM Consignment lab will issue a non-acceptance letter. Such products must either be returned to their country of origin or be destroyed.
  3. Energy Label Requirement: For power-consuming devices like TVs, refrigerators, fans, air conditioners, and washing machines, it's crucial to ensure they come with an Energy label. SIRIM QAS Consignment will verify the presence and quantity of these labels before supply.
  4. Documentation: Products such as fans, lighting, TVs, air conditioners, fridges, washers, microwaves, rice cookers, and chest freezers must be accompanied by detailed reports containing a component list when applying for a certificate or its renewal.
  5. Certificate of Approval (CoA) Renewal: From September 1st, 2023, the CoA renewal process will require the license holder to maintain consistency between the PCS license and the CoA and report.
