India Publishes Guidelines for Secondary Cells and Batteries with Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electro

On March 11, 2019 the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) posted new Guidelines for IS 16046 for secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes.

Revised Standards IS 16046 contains:

 

  • IS 16046 (Part 1): 2018/ IEC 62133-1: 2017 – Nickel System  
  • IS 16046 (Part 2): 2018/ IEC 62133-2:2017 – Lithium Systems

The last date for implementation of the revised Standards is March 14, 2020. After this, the old Standard IS 16046:2015/ IEC 62133:2012 will be withdrawn.

Applicants shall ensure that the product conforms to all the requirements, as applicable, and shall take timely actions for switchover as per the revised Standards and guidelines to the mentioned date of implementation. Beyond March14, 2020, no registration shall be granted as per old version.
