India Implements New Regulations for Personal Protective Equipment

The Ministry of Textile of India designed new regulations for personal protective equipment (PPE) units. According to the new requirements, PPE units and fabrics for PPE units manufacturing must bear a new unique certification code (UCC) and tamper-proof stickers after passing the laboratory tests.

For now, only eight laboratories have been approved by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for testing of PPE units required for protection from COVID-19.

The UCC code has the period of validity that is indicated in the document provided by the testing lab. This document contains such information as the UCC code number, identification of the manufacturer, standard number that applies to the product and validity date.

The information about all UCC Certificates is available on the official websites of the South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and the Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE). Thus, anyone can check whether the product meets the required safety compliance.

The information has been prepared by the GMA Consult Group team.
