In South Korea, the use of hazardous substances in electronic and electrical products is restricted by the so-called Korea RoHS document. It is the Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Vehicles that was amended by the Enforcement Decree and approved on November 16, 2020.
The amendments concern regulatory scope and extend the quantity of electronic and electrical products types (EEPs) that are subject to the restrictions on the Use of Hazardous Substances as well as the quantity of Hazardous Substances.
Thus, 23 new types of electronic and electrical products were added to the Act from January 2021. Among them are the following:
The hazardous substances were added with 4 kinds of phthalate esters (DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP). They start to be restricted in the products from July 1, 2021. The substance content in the product should not exceed amount as indicated below:
