Egypt Reforms Type Approval Procedures

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt again updates the type approval procedure in the country. In the beginning of the year, we’ve already notified our clients about the first changes in the type approval procedure in Egypt. If in the beginning of the year, there were only two schemes of approval for communication equipment:

  • Light type approval scheme
  • Tight type approval scheme

Today, there are four of them. Apart from the above-mentioned, two additional schemes were added:

  • Intermediate type approval scheme
  • Guided type approval scheme

So the light type approval scheme is applied when:

  • a manufacturer is accredited under ISO 17025 with regards to EMC requirements or
  • a manufacturer has a certified quality management system against ISO 9001 requirements and a factory is located in such countries as: Western Europe, Russia, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan or
  • at least a factory is located in such countries as: Western Europe, Russia, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan

The tight type approval scheme remains the same and concerns factories that are located in China and India.

The Intermediate type approval scheme is similar to the light scheme but relates to the factories that are located in any other countries that were not mentioned above.

Finally, the guided type approval scheme should be applied to the factories that are located in Egypt. This scheme requires a factory inspection from the NTRA.
