Egypt Extends Grace Period for Certain Softlines Products

The General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) of Egypt decided to extend the grace period for certain textile products. Thus, initially, the following type of products should have the certificate of conformity to be imported in Egypt from the end of February 2021:

  • Footwear
  • Ready-made clothes
  • Carpets
  • Floor covers
  • Upholstery
  • Leather bags

However, due to the hard times caused by Covid-19, the GOEIC extends the grace period up to May 17, 2021.

The GOEIC informs that there are 2 ways to get access to the market of Egypt for the above-mentioned products:

  • According to the provisions of Article (94) of the executive regulations for import numbered (770/2005), the manufacturer could be registered at GOEIC to market the products

    or
  • Submit a certified and authenticated inspection and auditing certificate as well as test reports against the Egyptian standards requirements  issued by the accredited lab that is the member of  ILAC
