Conformity Marking in Great Britain

The United Kingdom left the EU on January 31, 2020. However, they agreed make no significant changes until December 31, 2020. In this regard, from January 1, 2021 the relationship between the UK and the EU starts to be regulated by The EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the UK introduces new national rules. One of these rules concerns conformity marking.

A new UK Conformity Assessed marking (“UKCA”) is now applicable in the UK. The UKCA marking applies to most goods previously subject to the CE marking. You can use the UKCA mark when the product was assessed by a UK conformity assessment body against the UK legislation. Nevertheless, the UK continues to recognise products that meet EU rules and have been assessed by the EU recognised notified bodies up to December 31, 2021. However, please note that the CE marked goods can be put to the market of the Great Britain only while GB and EU rules are the same. Thus, if the EU amends some rules and the product would be evaluated against amended rules, such product cannot be sold in the UK even if it was put to the market before December 31, 2021 as the national UK requirements would be differ from these amended ones.

It is allowed to have both the CE and UKCA mark on the product as one of them shows that the product meets the EU requirements and the other proves the compliance with the UK requirements.
