China Updates Some Softlines Requirements

Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standards Committee) of China issued a number of important national standards covering consumer products, green sustainability, industrial manufacturing, health protection, service industry, public credit, government affairs, and many other fields.

In the field of consumer goods the following standards have been developed:

  • National standard GB/T 39508—2020 "Knitted infants and children's clothing"
This standard refers to relevant domestic and foreign standards and materials and the actual technical level of domestic ecological textile production and testing, scientifically and rationally selecting evaluation items and determining evaluation indexes. The technical content is intersected with “The Safety Technical Code for Children’s Textile Products" (GB 31701), "Knitted Children’s Clothing" (FZ/T 73045), "Infant Knitted Clothing" (FZ/T 73025). This standard makes the evaluation index system of knitted infants and children's clothing more complete and more substantial. It defines the terms and definitions of infant knitwear and children’s knitwear and makes more reasonable provisions for accessories such as zippers and adhesive buttons on infant clothing and contains more detailed requirements with regard to the tensile strength of clothing belts, fillings, labels, and sewing indexes.
  • National standard GB/T 29868-2020 "Sports protective products - Knitted products general technical requirements"
It was established in November 2019 and is going to be adopted in June 2021. Before this date, the version GB/T 29868-2013 remains valid. The standard will help to improve the production and processing technology of knitted sports protective gear and enhance the quality of product.
  • National standard GB 39552.1-2020 "Sunglasses and sunglare filters-Part 1: General requirements"
It was established in November 2020 and is going to be adopted in December 2021. It is the first mandatory national standard for the health and safety of sunglasses products in China. It is based on the ISO 12312-1:2013 “Eye and face protection - Sunglasses and related eyewear - Part 1: Sunglasses for general use”. The standard is of great importance as helps to ensure the health and safety of consumers using sunglasses products by improving the quality of domestic sunglasses products, and promoting the healthy development of the glasses industry.
