Chile Starts Adopting 5G Technology

Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (SUBTEL) of Chile announced the opening of a 5G network for mobile technologies in the country on December 16, 2021

The trials of the 5G (1800 MHz) network had been started from 2019 and covered such areas as ports, mining, agriculture, forestry, health service, transportation, etc.

Additionally, a robust 5G Campus network has been launched to allow testing of new technologies. Currently, there are 22 universities and technical training centers in six regions of Chile that take part in trials within the 5G network and have already carried out four 5G pilot tests with regard robotics, Smart Cities, telemedicine and Augmented Reality applied to music.

Although the spreading of the new technology will be realized step by step, this technology is already available for citizens of more than 30 communes of Chile.

Thus, Chile became the first country in the South America region that launched 5G technology.
